Netflix Hits Compared: The Witcher Blood Origin vs Glass Onion Viewership

Viewership data seven days after release.
The Witcher: Blood Origin
2022 wasn't easy for "The Witcher" series fans. First, they didn't get the third season. Then, the disappointing news broke out when Henry Cavil, who gave his face to Geralt of Rivia character, posted on Instagram that he decided to leave The Witcher crew after season 3. For consolation, fans got Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt and four episodes of "The Witcher's" prequel, "The Witcher: Blood Origin."
Unfortunately, the series, released on December 25, 2022, turned out to be unpopular among the critics and gained rather nasty or, in the best case, mixed reviews scoring 32% Tomatometer and 13% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, data often shows that opinions are one thing and viewership results are another. We checked the "Blood Origin" numbers and compared them to the successful "The Witcher."

We found out that "The Witcher" managed to be the number one in every analyzed country's Top 10 titles in the period of seven days after its release. While "Blood Origin" couldn't get to the first spot, it placed itself somewhere in the Top 10 for every analyzed country.
For both "The Witcher" and its prequel, we found out that these fantasy dramas were most watched in Poland and Germany. However, the part of the platform following the tales of The First Witcher was reduced to less than half in relation to the followers of Geralt of Rivia. This is reflected in the "Share of Viewing" metric, which measures the number of Unique Viewers watching the title
compared to all the Netflix active profiles in the period.
The love from Poland for these titles could be related to the fact that both series are based on “The Witcher” book series written by the Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski.
We can't directly compare the Total Hours Watched between the two series because the first season of "The Witcher" has eight episodes, while "Blood Origin" has only 4.
Although the actual number of Unique Viewers between both is not that far, the Total Hours Watched of "Blood Origin" is about a third and a fourth part of the THW of the first season of The Witcher. That means fans didn't have much motivation for this much shorter series.
Glass Onion A Knives Out Mystery
A few days earlier, on December 23, Netflix released another title that immediately took the audience's attention along with a great score on Rotten Tomatoes: 93% both on Tomatometer and Audience Score.
"Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" — a continuation of the famous Knives Out presents another Benoit Blanc case. The movie is cast by Hollywood's crème de la crème: David Craig, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr., Ethan Hawk, and many, many more, with Serena Williams included. Isn't it impressive? Let's see if this galaxy of talents brings a broad audience!

Definitely, it has performed very well in its first week, achieving the top of the ranks for almost each analyzed country - except for France, where it still achieved a very good second spot.
In the period of seven days after its release, the "Knives Out" sequel managed to have a good part of the platform in front of the screen, where the Share of Viewing was somewhere between 17% and 26% for each country. Considering these numbers, the audience, and the critics' reviews, it was a good call from Netflix to take over the sequel.
